Director, Professional Development and Curriculum


Phil Lafontaine's 30 year career in education started as a public school teacher in both middle and high school level and is currently the Director for the Professional Development and Curriculum Support Division within the California Department of Education (CDE).  Prior to the directorship position, he was the administrator of the Mathematics and Science Leadership Office at CDE.  Phil has provided professional development in the area of science for several years through the Scope Sequence and Coordination Science Project and later through the kindergarten through grade twelve (K-12) Alliance, a statewide professional development organization of WestEd, where he was a Regional Director.  Phil attended the California public schools K-12 system and graduated from California State University at Chico.  He also received a Masters of Arts in Educational Leadership from California State University, Sacramento.  His professional career has been dedicated to the advancement of student's academic achievement through the improvement and advancement of teacher's skills and content knowledge.
